Providing each student with their own book or magazine allows them to fully engage in the material. My project allows each student to participate in whole class read aloud as well as small reading groups. Having their own book of Out of my Mind and Bridge to Terabithia will allow them to grow their fluency and reading comprehension while also sparking their imagination and creativity allowing them to visualize what they are reading. Scholastic Magazine's provide a fun and engaging way for students to explore the features of non-fiction literature such as text features. In addition to fluency and reading comprehension growth, read alouds support students presentation skills and social confidence. Having a Qball+ Throwable microphone in the classroom allows students to project their reading for all other students to hear them. Building a strong reading background is the basis for other academic disciplines, including science, math, and social studies. These books will reach hundreds of students over time. This will support my goal of having a print-rich classroom I strive to create. My students have shown an astonishing interest in the power of reading! I would love to be able to build upon this interest with enriching classroom activities and discussions.
