We want to grow healthy minds and bodies, with an emphasis on responsibility for ourselves and our environment. We are learning about how to care for ourselves and our future by building a sustainable garden on our school grounds. Our students will learn how to make healthy food choices, grow their own food, and how this will impact their health and the health of the environment. Our garden will contain organic plants native to our region in Maryland, and we will learn how working together with the environment can be beneficial to us and the world around us. We will be learning about how we can grow foods and plants that are healthy for us and our environment, and how this can turn into a cycle of healthy living and healthy eating as well as how it will help preserve our environment. We will also talk about nutritious eating habits and how to live a healthy lifestyle through what we put in our bodies. Students will see this first hand as they grow foods that they can eat and use. We will reach out to our families in our community as well to have volunteers help in our garden and to help teach our families at our school how healthy eating and preserving our environment is an attainable goal. We like to think of our garden as a school community garden, teaching students about health and the importance of helping the environment as well as bringing our families together. We will use the materials (Palram Snap and Grow Greenhouse, seeds, Picket Fence Border) to get started on our sustainable garden.
