Most of my students come from underprivileged families that are struggling to keep ends met. Many of them are single parent families with several children in the home and some of them live in shelters. They do not have access to technology in their homes and really want to learn, explore, acquire knowledge and be able to compete with their peers. The teachers at our school take pride in teaching but often have to take on the role of providing other needs for our students. We give coats, hats, gloves, and sometimes clothing to those that need it. The students all qualify for our free lunch program and eat breakfast, lunch and snacks at school each day. Many students go home in the afternoon and are with older siblings or grandparents who are not able to fully take on the role of parent. Even with all of these deficiencies, my students strive to be successful. They look forward to a fun and rewarding way to read, learn and explore online with an iPad. My students need an iPad tablet with case in the classroom to read and listen to audio books online.
