Research shows that children today have weak core muscles due to a lack of exercise, and play equipment necessary to build those muscles. This makes it difficult for them to sit still and focus. Because of this, many children are being misdiagnosed with ADD or ADHD. When a child's core muscles are too weak to sit up straight for a period of time, they compensate by slumping or laying over. Therefore, they are not in an upright, alert, and focused position conducive to learning. My project will help my students with this as I am requesting alternative seating. The stabilizer ball helps to build those core muscles needed to sit in an upright, alert and focused position.
