Standards for learning have increased in rigor over the past 5 years, but preschool is not yet required. These games are helpful for all students, but most especially for students that are new to school and a structured day. It gives them an opportunity to learn in a more relaxed way and also encourages cooperation among the students. The games are also helpful for my English learners. They provide pictures along with language which helps support their acquisition of English and holds their interest. With decreasing funding to districts and schools from the state, it is increasingly difficult to get assistance in purchasing supplemental materials like these literacy games.
