Having a comfortable place to sit and talk about issues will enable the student the opportunity to return to class with clearer focus on their lesson. Oftentimes a student comes to school with more things on their mind than the lessons for the day. It is during these times that the student requests to speak with a counselor or the teacher sends them to the counselor. This moment is a breakthrough because generally our students tend to act out rather than ask for help. When the students come to me, they need a comfortable place to sit and talk, vent, explore options, etc. Being able to sit comfortably and discuss the trauma that lingers in them and is stopping them from proceeding with their day in a positive manner is paramount to continuing to get a quality education.
