As part of our Social Studies curriculum, our students will be studying the history of our city and visiting various historical landmarks. After completing the reading and learning about the city, students will choose one of several landmarks to create a piece of wearable art that showcases our city. The students will choose and then sketch one of the city's historical landmarks. They will then transfer the outline of the sketch to a T-shirt. They will use the fabric markers to color the sketch to reflect the actual landmark. This project will create a long-lasting connection to our city for the students. They will remember their study of the city and the people and places who made it a great place to live. We will wear the T-shirts as we take walking field trips to visit the landmarks we have learned about. The T-shirts will have a two-fold purpose: the students will be a walking showcase of the city's landmarks and we will have a distinct way of identifying our own students when we are out in public.
