Let's face it- kids LOVE technology! With a growing caseload and such a variety of needs, having access to an iPad and apps to promote speech and language will help me provide engaging and exciting therapy for my students. A full size iPad will ensure that all members of a group are able to clearly see what is on the screen. I will be able to add apps that teach a variety of basic concepts, allow for articulation practice, and even provide a voice for those who have not yet discovered their own. One of my favorite quotes is "not being able to speak is not the same as not having anything to say." This quote rings so true for many of my students. From having speech that is hard for others to understand to being non-verbal, many children grow increasingly frustrated when they are not able to effectively communicate with peers and adults in their environment . Having the iPad will help create motivating, enjoyable, and engaging sessions where my students can learn skills to repair communication breakdowns.
