Divergent, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Ghost are the books my kids must chose from their summer assignment. They will read independently and then engage in lively discussion upon returning to school in August. My students are smart, funny, enthusiastic learners. The sounds of silence in my classroom when my kids get caught up in a book is absolutely amazing! The voracious writing that my kids produce when they are truly engaged in their book is what makes my job worth doing. They love to find characters that resemble them. They enjoy reading about kids their age that are able to overcome obstacles. My kids love to go on the adventures that a book can take them on, but can't always afford the price of that trip. What fun it would be able to simply hand them a ticket to that adventure as they leave for the summer!
