My classroom has 24 standard desks and chairs. I am looking to transform my room with the addition of flexible seating. This will be my fourth year teaching, and I am still exploring how I can provide my students with the most effective learning environment. I'm looking to have a variety of seating options available to the students. Bean bag chairs and Back Patter's seats are fun alternatives. They are cozy, yet allow they to sit up enough to focus on the lesson. Soft seats are small cushions that will help them comfortably sit at a table that is low to the ground. They can sit in a variety of positions, whereas a standard chair would be more limiting. The last item I am looking forward to is a class set of clipboards. They will be used instead of a surface, like a desk or table. Kids will be able to move throughout the room and sit in so many new places with the freedom of a clipboard workspace. I believe that this seating will help the students to stay engaged, interact, and have fun. This also allows students to take on a role of being in control of their learning. Many classrooms that have implemented flexible seating have noticed an improvement in grades, happier and engaged students, and more participation during lessons. I am so excited for this new addition to our room.
