One of the difficulties in teaching percussion classes in the HPS system is that the district does not have enough quality percussion instruments for each school. Because of this, some percussionists are unable to play on a drum set, and some use quality instruments and mallets for the first time at their concert. The percussion and keyboard items in this project will be distributed amongst the schools to ensure that all percussionists get a chance to learn, practice and perform on quality instruments. The Middle School program currently produces 12 concerts per year, as well as several parades, football games, hockey games and other community performances. Many of these performances are held during the school day so that students all students are exposed to a greater variety of music.
