I teach full day preschool in a high poverty Chicago Public School for a total of 20, 4 and 5 year olds. My school is located on the North Side of Chicago and people sometimes have the perception that we are well funded because of our location, which couldn't be further from the truth! My students are mostly minority and ESL students. They are a very active, affectionate, and funny bunch of kiddos. My students want to be challenged and are very curious and excited when new items and curriculum are added to the classroom. Although I have been teaching for 20 years, I am fairly new to this school and classroom and have found that there are many things that my classroom is lacking. I want my students to want to come to school every day. I want materials that will challenge them as well as provide fun experiences for them on a daily basis. This is my main focus for them as their teacher.
