Some of my students are not only economically challenged but mentally and physically challenged. The have suffered a double whammy Covid and the unprecedented winter storm. This has made a bad situation worse. They sleep where they can. Some unable to take a bathe. The only nutritious meal they receive is at school. We offer them clothing and whatever else they need to sustain them. It breaks my heart. We encourage people to eat healthy but what if you can't afford it?The majority of my students who are old enough and some who are not old enough have jobs. Special arrangements are made so they can attend school and work. It's hard to concentrate when you are hungry or worried about where you will sleep. They live in poverty. Some of our students will take food home to feed other. 100% of students are below the poverty level. The surrounding businesses offer some assistance but are basically mom and pop stores.
