Students will benefit from the Wobble Chairs, Gaiam Kids Stay-N-Play Balance Balls, Inflated Seat Cushions and Comfy Pillows in many ways. They will be able to fidget, move and engage their bodies while staying focused on tasks needed to be completed daily. Research shows that students learn best when they are comfortable and have the ability to move when needed. The Wobble chairs will allow students in small groups to engage their core muscles which then helps sustain attention. If students aren't working with me in small group they are on the computers reinforcing their skills through a program which targets each students' individual needs. Students can use the Stay-N-Play Balance Balls to move and squirm while working, so they do not lose attention or get sleepy. When students are comfortable and the classroom feels more like home the learning is authentic and they are able to make connections with a text. The flexible seating gives students options to engage their bodies while the learning focuses on reading deficits. Donations to this project will improve my classroom by providing seating for students who need alternative options to the traditional desk and chair. Moving their bodies while learning alleviates distractions and allows for more focused instruction. Students will develop more of a love for reading when provided with comfortable options. My ultimate teaching goal is to instill a love of learning and providing an environment which allows for enjoyable experiences in the classroom!
