Happy, comfortable students are better learners. So often we ask our students to sit still which goes against being a child and also against the need to self regulate with movement. Research has shown that movement is critical for staying alert but also for increased concentration. The pandemic is going to challenge my students' need to move more than ever, as they will have to social distance and stay in their seats longer than normal. With the new constraints that will be in place, choosing their own flexible seating will give students a sense of control over their environment. And with a choice between a bouncy band and wiggle wobble chair feet, my students will be more comfortable, expend excess energy and thereby be more focused, happy and successful.
