A good mix of fiction and non-fiction books will help to build my student's reading stamina. For many of my students, the books that they get from my classroom library are the only books they have access to for at home reading. It is important for students to have high interest books because reading increases their academic achievement. Research shows that when students have a choice in their reading materials, that they are much more motivated to read for prolonged periods of time. When students read for prolonged periods of time, it builds their ability to focus. This helps them across the curriculum.
