My students work relentlessly with the new common core math and language art standards. However, part of common core is incorporating multiple subject areas in our lessons. In first grade art is always a high interest activity that engages all students. Like many schools around the country, with limited resources, art and music is always left behind. I expose my students to different art projects and materials so that they explore with them and learn techniques. They thoroughly enjoy art every time we do it! However, my materials budget for the year is used up with our basic materials (pencils, crayons, erasers, etc). These materials I've chosen are more expensive and would consume by materials budget. We are in dire need of a drying rack for art projects! We are constantly looking for available surfaces to put our art projects to dry, and more often than not we run out of space! The pastels are so much fun and students enjoy using them in their projects. Most students have never used them before. We love the vibrant colors!
