These materials will make a difference in student learning because graphic novels are definitely the passion for this group of students, and when they know they'll be able to KEEP these books it will excite them to no end. Plus, once we are done going through the big questions of each graphic novel, discuss the meaning of the main character's story, we will also break both of the books down to understand how each of them are told using visual storyline mountains. Students can understand this if they are at school or at home. Once each book has been read, discussed, broken down, and understood...it's time to make our own graphic novels using everything we learned in class. The students will come up with a rough draft of their stories and then create a final draft using the colored pencils and journals. In the end, this small group of students should leave the class feeling inspired and know a bit more about how to tell a story through the use of words and images combined.
