Learning how to read and write is the foundation of each child's education. The complex structure of language can take years to master for all students and even longer for ESL students. My young struggling readers are easily distracted in the classroom with so much teaching and activity going on each day. Having a horse shoe shaped table will enable me to work with my groups and keep their attention while giving individual support as needed. One to one instruction as well as small group instruction is the extra support that many 1st and 2nd grade students need to help them develop their personal language foundation, which will help them to learn to read and write in English.
