My students need daily social skills instruction in order to be successful in their classes and in their personal lives. The pandemic has negatively impacted the growth of their social skills and in the upcoming school year, both academic and social skill remediation will occur. I will integrate social skills instruction & games throughout my ELA classes. Social and Emotional Learning Standards that will be addressed in my classroom are demonstrating knowledge of one’s emotions (self-awareness 1A), the ability to manage emotions (Self-Management 2A), and demonstrating an awareness of other people's emotions and perspectives (social awareness 3A). Sanitizing wipes will be used throughout the school year to provide clean surfaces & clean games for social skills growth. I provide a comfortable atmosphere for my learners by having Christmas lights throughout my classroom. Students will use the social skills games throughout the school year in order to practice the skills they learn through direct instruction.
