The goal of this project is to empower my students to change the cycle of poverty and the lack of educational achievement in their families by providing them opportunities to become real-world problem solvers and innovators. By providing my students with the Duplo Simple Machine sets, they will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with others to build simple machines, using the engineering design process. Children will use project cards, following visual directions to create specific machines. When finished, they will work to improve their design. These materials will be available for use by all 3 kindergarten classes at my school to challenge students to work collaboratively, while solving problems and exploring careers in engineering.
