My students love learning, but with grades 9-12 all in one class and students coming with varying ability levels, our classroom functions in a slightly less traditional manner. Gone are the days of sitting in desks for an hour while listening to a lecture; students need to be able to comfortably and independently engage in authentic learning. My students love the freedom to work individually and at their own pace and sadly a traditional classroom environment isn't always conducive to that. This project allows my students to have some options in what type of seating arrangement works best for them as learners - whether they need a bouncy ball chair to get out some energy or a traditional hard-back chair or a cushion on the floor. I began implementing a trial run of flexible seating last year and student comfort, student initiative, and student engagement have all been positively impacted. With more options able to accommodate more students, they will continue to thrive. Thank you!
