The netting, seeds, soil and fencing that I asked for will be used to teach my students where our food comes from as well as how we can grow our own vegetables. Most of my students have never planted anything before and thought that their food was grown at the super market. I want to give them a hands on experience where they can see the cycle of growing food from beginning to end. Being in an urban setting, some of my students don't have access to a yard and need to learn that you can plant vegetables anywhere. Last year we repurposed a sandbox and turned it into a raised bed. We want to expand on this and have multiple raised beds. The raised beds will be where the vegetables are grown. It is my hope that once this garden is complete, the other grade teachers will use it to teach their kids as well.
