Calculators have shown to be a great benefit for my students in many ways. They help overcome an lack of basic skills that tends to hold them back from learning Algebra topics. Students, when given the appropriate tools, can learn, understand, and even master the more advance topics without the fear of getting stuck on the basic facts that have challenged them for years. The scientific calculators add the extra advancement for my higher students to learn even high topics in algebra and not be hindered with the many calculations that many accompany the higher level thinking. My students have shown more confidence in themselves with the use of calculators causing more great work from them when the pressure of arithmetic taken away. One of the other great benefits my students will benefit form is now their high-stakes testing has a scientific calculator for them to use. I have seen students open it and close the scientific calculator on the test because they did not know how to use them so bringing them into the classroom and showing them how to use the major buttons should also reduce test anxiety which many of the students have already due to the it being math. My students need to be prepared and these calculators along with learning how to use them can advance their ability and confidence to succeed not only in my class but with their high-stakes testing.
