My project will benefit fifth grade students at the Locke Middle School. The use of wet and dry media gives students the opportunity to practice and understand the reasoning behind a variety of drawing techniques. Drawing is the foundation for all other media. Students at the middle school age are in a critical period of visual perceptual development. Drawing provides students with the opportunity to experience the application of all other subjects. Pattern applies the application of what math looks like, proportion provides the observation and comparison skills used in science, and perspective provides an understanding of historical importance of past, present, and futuristic thinking by developing empathy and imagination. The practice of different drawing techniques will enable students to express themselves pictorially by developing the rendering skills suited to their personal aesthetic both in process and style.
