These days it has become difficult to find nonfiction informational books that are not just about animals and science topics around a fourth grade reading level. Many interesting nonfiction topics are way above my student’s reading level, or way below it, which means majority of my students are out of luck. My students come to me at many different reading levels and it is my job to meet each student’s needs in order for them to grow. Not only are the “What is…” and “Where is…” and "What Were..." book series at reading levels for my students diverse learning needs, but they also cover topics that my students are interested in that are also age appropriate for fourth graders. These short chapter books break down the information about the topic in a way students can understand, no matter what their reading level is. These books will provide more information that is at their level of fluency and comprehension. No longer, will they have to rely on me for answers, but they can learn about it for themselves and become independent learners.
