The students loved listening to Sesame Street stories read aloud by our mini electronic reader. They practiced shapes, numbers, and letters using Sesame Street molds and dough, and counted mini cookies to feed Cookie Monster! They even went on a \"count the room\" adventure and practiced their spelling words along the way. One of their favorite activities was completing Sesame Street puzzles together.\r\n \r\nThroughout the day, we had some very special guests visit us—Super Grover stopped by for storytime, and The Count helped our students compare numbers. These books have opened doors to meaningful conversations about emotions, empathy, resilience, and kindness—topics that are essential to the healthy development of young minds. Through stories that reflect their own experiences and introduce them to others' perspectives, our students have begun to build stronger emotional awareness and interpersonal skills.\r\n\r\nIn our library, we've seen students gravitate toward SEL titles during free reading time, often choosing them over more traditional fiction. Some of the titles were perfect for our themed days. On Space Day, we had Mrs. Prince and a friendly Martian join us to read Aliens Love Underpants and Aliens Saved the World. On Dinosaur Day, we enjoyed Dinosaurs Love Underpants. We had the most amazing day on Friday, and it's all thanks to you.\r\n \r\nWhen the students arrived at school, they were divided into two teams—blue and red. Each student made their own soccer hat and wore a penny (jersey) to represent their team. Once everyone was ready, we read the book Dino-Soccer, and the students cheered for their respective teams throughout the story. Every time a dinosaur scored in the book, the corresponding team earned points.\r\n\r\nAfter the story, the Blue Team was in the lead, and everyone was excited for the next game. We had written 100 words on soccer ball cutouts, and each team had one minute to read as many words as they could. This was one of their favorite activities—and mine too—because it really supports their reading fluency. After the timer went off, they checked the back of each soccer ball to see if it had a bonus like a \"free kick\" or a \"goal.\" If so, they earned extra points or got to try and score using our inflatable soccer goal.\r\n\r\nNext, we played a number identification game. Students picked a number and discovered what was behind it. Some numbers hid \"goals,\" \"free kicks,\" or even a \"World Cup winner,\" which earned them extra points. Others had \"penalties,\" \"off-sides,\" or \"red cards,\" which caused them to lose points.\r\n\r\nWe also played \"Score to 100\" and a number-matching game. Both teams worked hard, reviewing reading and math skills such as reading aloud, sight word recognition, and identifying, representing, and comparing numbers. After a fun-filled day of learning, it was only right to go outside and play a real game of soccer. I have never seen them so excited!\r\n\r\nAt the end of the day, the Red Team was declared the winner, but every student went home with soccer-themed prizes. After school, I received a message from the mother of one of my students. She thanked me for always making learning fun and memorable, and said her son couldn't stop talking about the day and hopes we'll do it again.\r\n\r\nThis is exactly the kind of learning environment I strive to create for my students—and I couldn't do it without donors like you.\r\n\r\nI truly can't thank you enough for supporting my project. We have been eagerly waiting to bring our amazing project to life, and we finally succeeded. I received 18 chicken eggs in early April and incubated them in our main school hallway. This project was initially intended for our kindergarteners, but I thought this was an amazing project that the whole school would enjoy being a part of. \r\n We incubated our eggs on April 3rd and began our countdown. Each day, we carefully checked on the incubator—making sure it had enough water, monitoring the temperature, marking off the days, and placing a plastic model egg that showed the students what the baby chick looked like at that stage of development. This hands-on visual tool was such a great addition to the experience—thank you so much for providing it!\r\n Throughout the weeks, we candled the eggs to check for fertility and growth. After candling, we discovered that 15 of the eggs were fertile, and we couldn't wait to see what the chicks would look like! We also read books about the life cycle of a chicken and learned so many fascinating facts—like how chicks can start hearing sounds by day 14.\r\n One of the most heartwarming parts of this journey was seeing different classes stop by the incubator in the hallway to sing to the eggs or offer sweet words of encouragement. It truly was one of the cutest and most touching things to witness. \r\n Day 21 finally arrived, and we all walked into school anxiously waiting to see if the chicks had pipped. Throughout the process, we faced some challenges with our new incubator and ended up transferring the eggs to an older one we had on hand. We were nervous, but to our relief, the chicks began to pip, and by the end of the day, we had our first baby chicks!\r\n We set up a live camera so our students could watch the hatching process throughout the day and night. The next morning, we were thrilled to find that 8 more chicks had hatched, and the final 2 arrived that Friday. We ended with 12 beautiful, healthy baby chicks that we all absolutely adore.\r\n I don't have the words to fully express what this project meant to us. We were thrilled when our project was funded, and we discussed how one random act of kindness can lead to another, like a domino effect. Our mission was to create a ripple effect. \r\n With your generosity, we purchased kindness bracelets and kindness pencils. We went to visit all the third and fourth graders who were diligently preparing for the state test. We provided them with goodies and words of encouragement led by Cora Corazon, our inflatable heart. All the third and fourth graders were thrilled and surprised by our visit. My students wished them luck and expressed their belief in them. When we finished, my students were ecstatic about their accomplishment. They felt proud to have spread some kindness.\r\n Throughout the weeks we went to other classrooms to spread more kindness. Our kindergarteners are very popular at our school. Not only because we spread kindness, but because this project has helped to make connections with our students. I can't tell you how important that is.\r\nThis week coming up is teacher appreciation week and they are going to visit every teacher and staff member to hand out the pens and motivational fruits that we were able to get thanks to you.\r\n Cora Corazon has also become very popular at school.
