Please help support our learning environment! Students with speech and language delays and learning disabilities are at a high risk for difficulties in learning to read, write, and develop social communication skills. An optimal learning environment can promote and increase progress in individual and group therapy sessions. As a speech-language therapist in a growing PK-12th grade school, space has become of utmost concern. Our teachers are working together to share the space to accommodate both our middle and elementary school students. Presently we must share part of a 6th grade classroom with speech and language related services. This setup is not designed for adequate accommodations within the classroom and has been difficult to convert structurally.
Additionally, noise levels have significant negative impact on my students' learning. Many of these children have attention difficulties, processing delays and require multiple supports. I have to constantly redirect my little learners back to the targeted task, as they get easily distracted by the 6th grade lessons and cannot focus. My students miss important instruction and the sessions become less effective. We have attempted to block noise and distractions with bookshelves and various furniture, but this alternative has caused safety concerns for us.
Having a partition to divide and separate the classroom will provide the students in both a speech-language therapy program and the 6th grade classroom with an appropriate and nurturing environment for learning. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their progress and support their overall academic achievement.
Your help in bettering our school and assistance in ensuring appropriate and effective speech and language services are provided for students with speech and language disabilities is greatly appreciated.
