My students attend an elementary school in an under-served community. We have many English Language Learners from various language backgrounds that require specialized English Language instruction each day in addition to their typical classwork. Many students do not have consistent or concrete learning opportunities outside of school, and their Kindergarten year is often their first experience with literacy and learning. While our families and caregivers want to be involved in their child's education, it is often difficult for them to provide both the financial support and volunteer a time commitment our school needs to be truly successful. Although, my students may have many challenges in their everyday lives they come to school with big smiles on their faces.
