My new approach to classroom learning leans heavily on the idea that open, collaborative spaces to foster more meaningful learning experiences for children! I teach first grade and would like to get rid of the traditional desk. I am looking to get smaller tables that are all the same size and shape to help create an environment that is easier to rearrange quickly and encourage collaboration among students. These tables will help me have a flexible environment and will be a great asset to my classroom and encourage learning in a variety of ways. Tables, instead of desks in the classroom, will allow for extra room in the classroom and allow students the option to stand or sit. With this extra room, kids will have more room to move around, they can spread out to do group work or read around the room. Students are excited to move around the classroom to work in small groups with their peers. They enjoy working with their peers and find it to be more fun to work with others than working independently. This will increase the students interest in the subject being taught. By moving from center to center the students will be given the opportunity to stay more focused and allow them to move around the classroom to work with their peers.
