I teach general music to kindergarten through fifth grade students, and many are new English learners. We have a drumming program that is growing and students can participate in 4 different music ensembles outside of their regular music class. We have a chorus, two drumming ensembles and a recorder ensemble. The Drebeke drum is a part of the heritage of many of the students at Maples. We have borrowed them from other schools because our school doesn't have enough for a class. The top drumming ensemble performs numerous times throughout the year for many events and numerous non profit fund raisers such as Children's Hospital of Michigan, Orphan Relief Fund and Relay for Life.
