Communication is very important to all of us. My students with multiple disabilities face a variety of limitations due to these disabilities. Despite these challenges that they face, they still take pleasure in participating in daily discussions. I am making it a priority to ensure that there are no restrictions when it comes to them expressing themselves. However, there is a lack of technological devices that aid communication, and it is challenging for me as a teacher to provide my students with ample devices for them to share amongst each other to help them express their thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Communication is an essential ingredient to any educational setting whether it is pre-school or graduate school and especially in a classroom with special needs children. The Ipad is an extremely useful device in helping my students to communicate and share their ideas. The Ipad which aid in communication will support my teaching efforts because it will mean that I can work with all of the students more efficiently and give them feedback in a much more direct way. This will allows us to get the most possible out of the classroom instruction and further their progress throughout the year at a better rate. The more students are able to participate in the daily discussion, there will be an increase of their sense of involvement in the class and this has a positive impact on their self-esteem and worth. Some of these are students with severe disabilities and seeing the joy that they get when they are able to participate makes a major difference to their psyche. Not only will this technology impact their performance in the classroom, but just as importantly, it will impact their overall well-being and sense of self which one cannot put a price on.
