Using a variety of seating options requested through this project, our classroom will be transformed into a student-centered environment where energy can be channeled in the most productive way. Flexible seating in classrooms gives students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. Flexible classrooms help students to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. Transforming the classroom space to meet students’ individual needs impacts how they learn, how they interact, and the entire classroom experience. Research shows that that only about 5% of information delivered through lecture is retained. However, 50% is retained through discussion groups and 70% for practice by doing. 80% of information is retained by students teaching others which would all be possible with an appropriately designed, flexible work space. Since implementing flexible classrooms, some public school systems have found that students' grades improved, students seem happier and more engaged, and students are participating more in invigorating conversations. With the materials requested through this project, I know my students will thrive in our very own flexible seating classroom
