Each of our kindergarten classroom doors face an open common area that we call a POD. Within this POD we have 16 different stations that we change every two weeks. These 16 stations include: two sensory tables, 1 manipulative play area, a reading nook, a puzzle, science, writing and game table, two art easels, two different block areas, a puppet center, lego table, and two dramatic play centers. We are in need of new, meaningful, and safe materials to put in these centers. Every material listed has a specific location within the 16 centers. For example, the Lakeshore Color Discovery Tubes will be placed at our science table during our color themed unit and can be put in the manipulative center during any other theme. When these tubes are shaken, the primary colors are combined and create secondary colors. The primary colored liquids have different densities, so they’ll separate automatically to be used again! This is a great way for students to learn how other colors are created. For our summer fun themed unit in May we are wanting to fill one sensory table with Kinetic Sand and ice cream mold utensils representing an ice cream shop! Kinetic Sand strengthens fine motor development, encourages creative thinking and pretend play! It can be used over and over with different thematic units through out the year. The STEM Magnetic Science station will be used at the science table and either block areas. With this STEM magnetic kit, students will be able to use the magnets to push cars up a ramp, move a magnetic mouse through a maze and more. They will be learning through hands-on exploration. All materials listed will be used by 7 kindergarten classes!
