I am requesting a carpet for my classroom where my student will sit during our group time. This carpet is divided into spaces that can help my first graders establish his or her own personal space during our group time. We spend a lot of time out of table seats and instead spend time together on the floor. Our time together during group time and instruction is often on the floor by our whiteboard. We currently sit in the carpet together. Many students struggle staying in their own personal space. Having a carpet that displays a space for each student will help each student stay focused on learning and engaging on the activity that we are exploring in that moment.
