Studies show that children like mine, who come from low-income families, use thirty million less words than peers of the same age from more affluent communities. My goal this year is to help my students develop the language they need to express themselves and be successful, not only in pre-k, but throughout their entire lives. We will utilize these materials in our classroom to build oral language and vocabulary skills in our Dramatic Play and Storytelling stations. Story kits/baskets can be used to to build our oral language skills and help us truly learn about the stories being told during read-a-loud. The pocket charts will help the students learn about the literature activities being taught in the classroom (literacy workstations).
