Providing students with baseball equipment such as bats, gloves and balls to compete with other high schools as a baseball team, will encourage struggling students to stay in school and succeed academically. In order to be on the team, students must pass their classes and maintain an eighty percent or higher attendance rate. As our school's attendance is below seventy percent, sports is a motivating factor to have students stay in school and their classes. The life skills of coming on time, grit, responsibility, and practice, as well as keeping at-risk youth off the streets is integral, and sports encompass all of these. I myself am a living example of why sports can drive and keep students in school. While I was young I used sports as a vehicle to meet my goal. The goal was to get my high school diploma, and I did.
