In a tech lab of 33 computers, we never have enough headphones for all the student computers. It is really noisy and students can't always hear what is going on or the directions needed to be successful. English Language learners need to clearly hear the correct pronunciation of the words they are learning in their program so that they can be successful in learning the English Language. When the students have their own headphones, they are more engaged in their learning and less distracted by their neighbors and what they are working on. With up to 33 students working at one time, the multiple sounds can become a serious distraction to some students.
