My students are emergent readers who will benefit from small group guided reading. The goal of guided reading is to teach students to use various strategies independently on their way to becoming fluent, skilled readers. Guided reading is the cornerstone of literacy instruction in my kindergarten. Guiding reading is one of the best ways to meet my students' individual needs. By grouping children by reading levels, I can target specific skills and strategies needed to advance to the next level. With a guided reading table, I will be able to organize materials and more importantly be in close proximity to the children in my small group.
