Research shows that students who have access to a variety of books in their own homes are more likely to succeed academically than their peers without easy access to books. By giving our campers opportunities to select new books to add to their home libraries during summer learning, we will begin enabling our students to build a culture of literacy within their own homes. Books funded by this project will help our campers and their entire families flip the script on Covid19 learning losses! Campers will set attendance, participation, and learning goals at the start of June. These goals will flow from each child's individual needs to fill gaps created by school closure last year and Covid19 quarantine protocols. The high quality, high interest books in this project will motivate students to reach their goals. Selecting a new book will be an incentive to read more and work harder to reach the next goal. Reading more builds stronger reading skills which helps fill the academic gaps and that leads to more book choices - it becomes a cycle of success for learning!
