My fourth grade students attend school in a high poverty neighborhood that has a history of violence. However, their school is a safe space for learning and playing. They look forward to playing on our playground because many of them complain that they don't have anywhere to play at home. They are beginning to make the connection between healthy eating, physical activity and their performance in school. They are developing an awareness that to succeed academically they need to be healthy.
