I have used stability balls to engage active learning since 2008. I did extensive research on the benefits of movement while learning before presenting my school district with the proposal of purchasing the balls.
My school district no longer has the funds available to replace popped balls. I have also invested over $400 of my personal finances to ensure that every student had a chance to use the balls as their chair. Unfortunately, that budget is no longer available either. After years of use, with the stability balls popping, I was in search of another resource. I have spoken to fellow educators who use motion stools. They love them! And they don't pop! A better investment!
Most importantly, the students are aware that they are able to focus better, breather better and relieve some pain from their bodies from sitting still in regular chairs for the rest of the day. They look forward to coming to math class, which is a new view for most of them! Please help me to try to ensure that we are giving students who struggle to focus at their teen-age years, (which is most), the best opportunities. I am doing my absolute best to teach perseverance in problem solving, not only in math, but within their whole educational journey. Active learning opportunities make a world of difference! I would hate to lose this form of engagement in students' ability to learn. Thank you!
