The lovelies I teach want so badly to use and understand technology. However, using a mouse and track pad really hinders them from being able to access what they need. Luckily these scholars are growing up in 2018 and touch screens are a thing that they can use. I want to be able to tap into their determination to learn and drive to be a part of the digital community. I have tried hand-over-hand teaching them the track pad, and a mouse, and we are making strides in this area. However, when they are working on a computer app that has them clicking in 4 different spots it frustrates them. Also, a lot of my students sometimes cannot find the words to express their needs and a tablet based PECS board would be able to help them do just that. Lastly, learning to be able to use technology or giving them the choice to use different technology for different reasons is an invaluable life skill. It gives them agency. How your donation help? I am asking for 5 tablets and 5 tablet cases because tablets are easier for the students to navigate as they give the scholars immediate feedback from where they are touching. Additionally, with the wealth of different apps and programs that would be available on the tablets, students can be provided exactly the extra practice they need. The cases are to make sure that the tablets are protected from accidents. Additionally, I am asking for pencil grips because we will be using stylus pens to write with the tablets at times, and with our fine motor needs, they will help us immensely.
