Children need art in their busy and often harried lives. Art supplies such as watercolor paper, drawing paper, art tissue, oil pastels, and sharpies are all supplies I use every month. With these supplies, our classroom has discovered Frida Kahlo, Magritte, Kandinsky, Middle Eastern art, and self-portraits. In this fast-paced world, I hope to create a place where students can slow down and find a space and moment to breathe, experiment and play. Art is a perfect medium for learning about oneself- what makes one tick, what gives joy, and how to deal with life's disappointments. Putting pencil to paper and brush to color bring a grounding and serenity that can only come with being allowed to be oneself.
