I teach high school students and sometimes as Freshmen, they have never had the experience of learning an instrument. The students can take beginner band/percussion classes and beginner guitar classes. The ukuleles would serve as an easy start guitar (fewer strings and easier to push down on the fretboard). If this project were funded, some students could also learn chords (or harmony) soon after receiving a Ukulele-this would encourage them to keep playing instruments. My students always want to push themselves and the Ukulele would provide them a chance to learn as many songs as they want. More songs mean more concerts and experiences.
