Our last reading unit is a great way to engage students in fun discussions talking about real life problems through fantasy book clubs. Books students are already interested in get to talk more in depth about characters, themes, and life lessons rather than reading it through and moving on. Even if available, having to search libraries for the Percy Jackson Lightning Thief Series, Spiderwick Chronicles, the Hunger Games, or Gregor the Overlander which can contain as many as 5 books in a series, for each student is challenging. This will help us a great deal where I can focus on building lessons and not searching the city's library for copy after copy for the students. This is such a fun unit for the students and I'd love class sets ready to go so we can dive right in and enjoy these stories.
