The learning styles and needs of young children require tactile, visual, and auditory experiences. Young children need practice and repetition with many concepts that are part of pre-reading, emergent reading, and early math learning. Early Childhood students gain from working together, guided by a teacher, and yet they also need to work at their own speed and developing skill level. Implementing Fire Kids Edition Tablets as a learning device will provide unique and rich learning opportunities for this age group. Younger students can "read" a story by tapping each word to hear it read aloud. Voice recording capability can be utilized in storytelling, creating class-made audio books, and sharing a student’s point-of-view about a project or drawing. Participants can trace or draw numbers and shapes, arrange letters to make words, and learn pre-reading skills such as sequencing, sound-letter recognition, blending and patterns. The Fire Kids Tablets have the capability to accommodate multiple learning styles, physical and mental abilities. Visual learners can easily see text, moving images, and other colorful displays. Auditory learners can experience the lesson through sound provided by the tablet’s built-in speakers or by headphones. Kinesthetic learners can physically manipulate text, images and other stimuli directly onto the screen. Hearing-impaired students, who rely on visual learning, benefit from the large display area of the screen, and the ability to highlight and touch portions of text or images. Students with impaired vision can control objects and perceive large-font text, as well as listen to accompanying sounds. The hand-held flat device allows full participation by mobility-impaired students who may not be able to reach other classroom technology. Teachers can introduce lessons on the tablet, then give the students time to learn on their own. While working around the classroom physically, a teacher can focus their attention on individual student needs.
