An essential oil is basically a liquid distilled from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots, and other parts of a plant. The chemical composition and aroma of essential oils are known to provide many psychological and physical therapeutic benefits. Although prescription medications and other remedies may be used, there are also natural ways to address the symptoms and behaviors. Along with diet and other natural efforts, using essential oils can be extremely effective in dealing with some of the challenges associated with ADD/ADHD as well as autism. These challenges include anxiety, impulsivity, poor anger management, foggy thoughts, forgetfulness, learning difficulties, tics, behavioral problems, speech or hearing issues, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Bringing peace and calm while improving focus and concentration, using these essential oils has been found to be extremely effective for these children. Essential oils can be applied directly to the body or inhaled through the use of a diffuser. The diffuser allows you to disperse your essential oil of choice by adding it to distilled water. The oils, diffuser, and additional essential materials will be used in a controlled therapeutic environment with students in conjunction with counseling interventions.
