Many of my students struggle with reading. I believe that in most cases, they simply aren't interested in what is available in the library, as there are so few of the "popular books" they like. They are left with few options to read and take AR quizzes on, and oftentimes don't have a book with them for that reason. In a town without a single book retailer, students don't have easy access to the kinds of books they want outside of our school library and many classrooms have resorted to creating their own small libraries. I hope that by adding a collection of books to our classroom, students will be able to discover new places, and fictional friends. As a new teacher, I find myself at a disadvantage and a book shortage, and hope that by starting a classroom book collection I can inspire my students to read books, once they find one they actually like.
