When playing a musical instrument, it's not only important to hear examples of what good music sounds like, but see examples of what good music looks like. Students are more actively engaged when they can watch AND listen to a performance, rather than just listen to it. Watching older musicians play can inspire young band students, who may think, "If I keep practicing, some day I could sound like that!" Having a projector in the band room will enable students to watch musical performances and learn from them. Students will get a clear picture of how they should look when they are playing: sitting with good posture, holding their instruments up, watching the director, and breathing deeply. Students will also be able to watch and critique their own performance after a concert. I enjoy recording them multiple times throughout the year so they can hear how they've progressed. Being able to see and hear how they actually sound and have improved can be an eye opening experience. Please help me inspire my students by bringing music to life for them!
